Taking Action for Living Systems is a Sonoma County based nonprofit bringing together the stakeholders and resources needed to implement wildfire, forest, watershed health and climate resilience initiatives at the landscape level.
TALS is founded on the principle that an effective response to current environmental and social challenges must come from ‘valuing nature’ -- a purposeful blending of what’s good for nature and what’s good for people. TALS’ enterprise approach is designed to provide ample ‘triple bottom line’ (ecology, society, economy) benefits to garner public support, assist in the coordination of governmental and non-profit initiatives, and enhance local economic activity and private investment. The best solutions will emerge when all the needed elements and actions build upon existing efforts, are well aligned and leveraged, and are fully and sustainably funded.
TALS focuses on Northern California's wine growing region of Napa, Sonoma, Lake and Mendocino counties which linked by a common Mediterranean climate, similar natural landscape, an agricultural economic base and threat of catastrophic wildfire. We collaborate with an expansive list of State and local agencies, community-based organizations, private businesses, and landowners to inform and further its wildfire hazard risk reduction, climate change adaptation, and economic development efforts.
